Overview & Essential Job Functions

Position Summary


The Bulky Line Operator is responsible for operating the bulky line conveyor for recovery of commodities and observes flow/feed of material on conveyors for maximum recovery. This position also is in charge of communicating via two-way radios with loader operators and/or management for maintaining a feed of material into the conveyor hopper and ensuring that the line employees are working safely and maximizing recovery of commodities. The Bulky Line Operator also oversees the proper cleaning and organizing of the floor, boxes, barrels, bins and work areas prior to end of shift.


Essential Job Functions

  • Operate the bulky line conveyor in an efficient manner following all safety protocols
  • Understand and follow “lock out/tag out” procedures
  • Understand emergency stop pull cords and emergency stop buttons
  • Work with team to empty all full recycling bins throughout the day
  • Separate recyclable materials from non-recyclables and separate different types of materials to maximize value of materials
  • Clean bulky line area at the end of every day using a variety of tools provided
  • Effectively communicate as required
  • Assures that the necessary tools, settings and supplies are ready prior to production
  • Maintains constant attendance at the bulky line and prevents other employees that are not trained on the bulky line from improper use
  • Assists management in maintaining the work areas in a clean and safe manner
  • Makes minor speed adjustments to the conveyors, and informs management when mechanical repairs are required
  • Records all down time due to machine malfunctions and reports them to management at the end of the shift

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bilingual English / Spanish
  • Conveyor belt experience

    • Exposure to electrical hazards, chemicals, standing on a metal platform, and uneven or slippery surfaces frequently
