  • Overview & Essential Job Functions

    Position Summary:


    The Scale Operator is responsible for helping to maintain the day-to-day operation and administrative duties associated with operation of the scale(s) and office assistant functions. This position requires a detail-oriented person able to maintain focus in a fast paced environment. This position is responsible for operating the weigh scales, scale computer and software programs, data entry, cashier duties and record keeping for MRF operations. Position is also required to screen and record incoming loads at the scale house, direct vehicles entering and leaving the facility.


    Essential Job Functions:


    • Enters load information, weigh and origin of waste into database to keep track waste entering Material Recovery Facility.
    • Monitors accuracy of commodity sales (correct material is shipped, weight is correct, seals are on place and pictures are taken correctly).
    • Handles incoming phone calls and e-mails from prospects and customers wanting new service, service changes, billing issues or service cancellations.
    • Make outbound call to follow up-through on customer needs and to ensure the resolution of issues.
    • Serves as an on-site resource for customers as well as Athens sales and operations personnel.
    • Entering commodity sales tickets, and dump tickets into the SoftPak program.

    Qualifications & Environmental Demands

    Required Qualifications:


    • High School Diploma or G.E.D
    • Great organization and communication skills.
    • Excellent communication, presentation and negotiation skills.
    • Bilingual (English & Spanish).
    • Ability to perform physical requirements of the position with or without reasonable accommodations. 

    Preferred Qualifications:


    • 1 – 2 year experience in customer service.
    • Computer literacy (MS office).
    • Waste Industry Experience.


    Physical/Environmental Demands:


    • Physical:
      • Sitting, seeing, hearing, & smelling continuously.
      • Ability to walk up and down 80 steps of stairs multiple times throughout the shift.
      • Problem solving, oral/written communication, analytical ability, calculating, concentration, & interpersonal abilities continuously.
      • Eye/hand coordination, fingering (typing), handling, & wrist motion continuously.
      • Bending, reaching, stretching, standing, & walking occasionally.
    • Environmental:
      • Exposure to dust, smoke, fumes, odors, & noise continuously.
      • Exposure to grease, oil, chemicals, & wet conditions occasionally.
